Week 2 Waiver Wire

Fantasy Football is finally upon us! There's been tons of chaos from injuries to exciting games to continued heartbreaking losses; this is why we play. It goes without saying but WHAT A WEEK 1. I just finished watching Monday Night Football - just wow. Let's get to it!

Quarterbacks

  • Taylor Heinicke vs NYG (1% rostered)
  • Jameis Winston at CAR (44% rostered)
  • Mac Jones at NYJ (26% rostered)

First and foremost - I'm completely behind Heinicke, especially in 12 team Superflex leagues. Give me Heinicke - try not to blow your whole budget going to get him if you don't absolutely need him. If you had Fitzpatrick, go grab him, this isn't an endorsement as an every week starter, but given the core around him - it may be headed that way. If you are worried about production from Matt Ryan, Tua or Big Ben - you should be pivoting towards Mac Jones and Jameis Winston. Mac Jones had a decent outing, nothing to rave about but he managed well in his first start, a game against the Jets is just what he needs to get more comfortable as a starter. I saved the best for last - Winston was absolutely slinging the ball; this was helped by some strong defensive play, but Winston did not show any bonehead decisions that got him, unceremoniously, walked out of Tampa Bay. He's definitely a top add this week.

Others to consider: Jared Goff (7% rostered) Sam Darnold (15% rostered)

Runningbacks

  • Elijah Mitchell vs Phi (10% rostered)
  • James White vs NYJ (34% rostered)
  • Mark Ingram at CLE (21% rostered)

Mitchell, let's be honest, should be the consensus top grab. As an undrafted free agent, he got his opportunity due to an unfortunate injury to Raheem Mostert - who's out for at least 6 weeks - and Trey Sermon being a healthy scratch. He did it up for us - and so did JaMycal Hasty - I believe even if Sermon is available Mitchell will be given the hot hand confidence to lead this backfield. James White will be a good flex play - Harris and Stevenson coughing up the ball has shown that White seems to be the only trustworthy back. If Pats continue to play from behind, expect to see White being called more. I said this a few times with Mark Ingram - but he's definitely the most favored back in Houston, I say this on the heels of him, Lindsay and David Johnson finding paydirt against the Jags. I don't believe Cleveland will allow Houston the same work path - so I'd expect them to lead on the leadership from Ingram.

Others to consider: Damien Williams, Larry Rountree
If they are still there: Nyheim Hines, Latavius Murray
Players I'm avoiding: Jets RBs, Philip Lindsay, Kenneth Gainwell

Wide Receivers

  • Tim Patrick at JAX (2% rostered)
  • Zach Pascal vs LAR (1% rostered)
  • Christian Kirk vs MIN (14% rostered)

My first target this week is Tim Patrick - even prior to Jeudy's injury - Teddy "Two Gloves" was looking for him; this smells opportunity go out and grab Patrick this week especially with the date with the Jags up next. Pascal; definitely a guy that's been off my radar. The main guys in this core I was invested in: Pittman and Campbell were not getting the expected volume that were due, since Hilton has been on IR. For now, he's a good pick up but may not be startable until we get more data. With the addition of AJ Green and drafting Rondale Moore - everyone believed Kirk to be an afterthought, it's definitely not a farfetched idea, but in hindsight this was ridiculous. He went absolutely insane with matchups against Minnesota and Jax on tap - he could firmly establish himself as the WR2 in this offense.

Others to consider: KJ Osborn (0% rostered) Van Jefferson (2% rostered) Danny Amendola (0% rostered)
If they're still there: Marquise Brown Jakobi Meyers
Players I'm avoiding: Tim Patrick, Greg Ward, Allen Lazard

Tight Ends

  • Juwan Johnson at CAR (11% rostered)
  • Cole Kmet vs CIN (34% rostered)

These guys are "my guys" since the offseason. After watching game film on Juwan Johnson and finding out his nickname was Megatron Jr this guy definitely had me excited to pickup everywhere I could. He did not disappoint, he didn't have many receiving yards but 2 of his 3 catches went for touchdowns. He should be pending in your waivers at this point. Cole Kmet - he's in for a breakout year - being an avid Notre Dame fan I've been waiting for this moment. He's basically rendered Jimmy Graham and afterthough, his big body and soft hands makes him an enormous target for both Fields and Dalton to look for when times get tough.
