Week 5 Waiver Wire

1 month of football down already, how crazy is that? The season is chugging along - I hope I'm making a difference week to week, if not, we've still got plenty of football left to make the necessary changes.

Quarterbacks

  • Sam Darnold vs PHI (38% rostered)
  • Taylor Heinicke vs NO (10% rostered)
  • Mac Jones @ HOU (17% rostered)

It's pretty insane to think that Darnold playing as well at the level he's currently at, is still sitting on waiver wires right now. In my opinion, he's definitely earned himself a weekly start and at least, a Top 12 consideration at QB. He's got a juicy matchup with Philly, I'm grabbing and starting him if I'm needing a change at QB. Heinicke has played well in the relief for Fitzpatrick, this is in large part to the offensive weapons around him, but he's done well nonetheless. For me, he's definitely a superflex/2QB consideration this week. Mac Jones is new to my weekly pickups - he battled the GOAT and went blow for blow all the way down the stretch. He's going from facing a strong defense to facing the pitiful Houston Defense, I'm more confident in a breakout performance against this defense.

Others to consider: Daniel Jones @ Dal (31% rostered)

Runningbacks

  • Damien Williams @ LV (9% rostered)
  • Kenneth Gainwell @ CAR (29% rostered)
  • Alex Collins v LAR (2% rostered)

For those of us that still have budget remaining, it seems as Damien Williams will be the guy to grab this week. With Monty going down with a knee injury, Damien did receive the carries in his absence, there was a small injury to Damien as well, I'd go ahead and grab Khalil Herbert for insurance just in case. Gainwell, as much as I hate to admit has been growing on me - he's definitely lived up to the hype and I was one of several, who believe Boston Scott would retain his role, but that's an afterthought now. If you're plagued by injury and/or have Miles Sanders, go ahead and scoop up Gainwell before it's too late. Alex Collins - I'm very intrigued on him splitting carries with Carson, not exactly a starting option, but he's a definite buy-low candidate off waivers.

Others to consider:  Samaje Perine (3% rostered) , Khalil Herbert (0% rostered) , Chris Evans (1% rostered)
If they are still there: Latavius Murray (48% rostered) , J.D. McKissic (39% rostered)
Players I'm avoiding: All Miami RBs, Kenyan Drake, Justin Jackson

Wide Receivers

  • Darnell Mooney vs LV (38% rostered)
  • Hunter Renfrow @ CHI (27% rostered)
  • Jamison Crowder @ ATL (20% rostered)

Mooney, much like Gainwell, I was not in on. However, I did hear he'd have more appeal once Fields was under center. That first game out, well, yea. This past weekend, we definitely saw what others had been touting, I think this is a good sign of things to come. With Fields under center, this definitely makes Mooney a must add and a Flex consideration. My favorite guy to talk about; Hunter Renfrow. He's just really good at getting open, Derek Carr loves him and his high volume is resulting in steady production. If you didn't like him before, that hit stick on the fake punt HAS to change your mind about how hard this kid plays. Last, Crowder who's finally back and assumed his old role - I'm not too sure if he's going to be a must start right away, but he'll be a good bye week filler moving forward. The Jets have ATL next, definitely makes him an intriguing start here as well.

Others to consider: AJ Green (24% rostered), Devante Parker (38% rostered)
If they're still there: Laviska Shenault (58% rostered) Jakobi Meyers (68% rostered)
Players I'm avoiding: Josh Gordon, Bryan Edwards, Nelson Agholor

Tight Ends

  • Dawson Knox @ KC (47% rostered)
  • Dalton Schultz vs NYG (34% rostered)

I will victory lap Knox here, I was very high on him last week and felt he was finally coming into his own. Sunday proved that he's definitely going to be favored/targeted when in the redzone, which for the 37% of people who rostered him last this spells good things moving forward - get him if he's still sitting on your wires. Schultz is making a case to be his team's TE1, it was believed to be that Jarwin was the better athlete, it does appear Dak prefers/trusts Schultz to the former. Amassing 12 catches for 138 yards and 3 touchdowns in the last 2 games, expect more of the same from Schultz against the Giants.
